The winning messaging formula for your course tagline

Kristina A. Sparks

Hey my friend 👋

In this edition, you’ll learn:

The 5 elements to use in your course tagline, plus a little secret about breaking the rules.

Type: 💡 Messaging & Positioning

Your course tagline doesn’t need to be clever.

It needs to sell.

What is a course tagline?

A course tagline is a 1-sentence pitch of your course.

It makes your ideal customer instantly say, “That’s me! I want this! ”.

And this is important – your ideal customer

Not your friend.
Your mom.
Or your dog.

(Unless they are your ideal customers, of course).

You’d use your course tagline:

  • As the main heading on the course sales page
  • In your emails
  • If someone asks, “So what do you teach?”

Use this messaging formula for your course tagline 👇

Side effect: you’ll make more sales.

I help [your ideal client avatar]
get
[desire] in [timeline]
without/even if
[main objection]
so that
[underlying desire]

Let’s break it all down so that it’s easy to build your tagline piece by piece.

Your ideal client avatar

This is ONE person you’re talking to.
Usually, it’s your previous version — the ‘before’ you.

You’ve been there. You get it.
Now you sell the shortcut.

Desire

This is what they’re dying to achieve.

It’s their dream result — the thing they think about in the shower. 🚿

Tip: the opposite of this desire usually points straight to their biggest pain.

Timeline

People want fast results.
That’s not a secret, it’s psychology.

So what’s the most optimistic timeline you can confidently promise?

(Be bold, not delusional here.)

Without/even if

This is where you handle their unspoken “yeah, but…” = the biggest objection.

They’ve tried before.
They’re scared.
They’re not ready to do that one thing.

Or they think they’re lacking something to succeed.

Pick one fear — then dismantle it.

Underlying desire

This is what happens when their dream actually comes true.
What will they feel?
How will their life change?

Ask yourself “so what?” three times — you’ll land on their real emotional why.

Here are a few examples:

👉🏻 I help new parents
👉🏻 get their baby to sleep through the night
👉🏻 in just 3 nights
👉🏻 without cry-it-out
👉🏻 so they can finally stop living on coffee

(I need this one lol!)

Another example:

I help burnt-out service providers package their skills into a course without working weekends or ghosting their social life so they can actually breathe again while growing their income.

A plot twist

Once you have ALL the elements, you can play with them:

Remove
Mix
Add back

When you know the rules well, you can start breaking them.

The goal here is to make your course tagline sooo good it can’t be ignored.

“Kristina, do you have examples?”

I’m glad you asked!

Here you go:

Tech SEO Pro course by yours truly

Based on my research and analysis of the audience, plus A/B tests, this is the tagline I’m using now.

Here’s another example, Painkiller by Katelyn Bourgoin:

This one is for a broader audience (compared to SEOs) and uses ICA, Desire and Timeline really well in the tagline.

Today’s lesson:

Your tagline is the most important part of your course messaging. Which also defines the success of your course.

And you need to nail all 5 elements before you can start playing with them.
